New York Cares is New York City's largest volunteer organization, connecting New Yorkers with service opportunities to help communities in need, focusing on education, hunger, and homelessness. The New York Cares Coat Drive is an annual city-wide campaign by the New York Cares organization to collect and distribute clean, gently used, or new winter coats to New Yorkers in need, keeping over 2.5 million people warm since its start in 1989.
