HIT HOUSE: NYC’S FIRST BOUTIQUE MUAY THAI FITNESS STUDIO

Hit House is a first-of-it’s-kind Muay Thai fitness boxing studio, located on Spring and Bowery in New York City. Set on challenging the perception of fight-based fitness and elevating the experience in a luxury boutique setting, Hit House is set to disrupt the boutique fitness industry, one punch, kick, knee and elbow at a time.

After moving to NYC and looking for a team minded workout to replace his college football days, co-founder Tyler Scott found a home in the Muay Thai community. With over 15 years training in traditional fight camp gyms and garnering an amateur competition record of 5-1, Tyler had his sights set on a new kind of challenge. His goal was to bring the world of Muay Thai into an inclusive, group class format set in a luxury, boutique studio. Along with his wife and co-founder, Dana VanPamelen, they wanted to create a welcoming atmosphere, where sweat, passion and fun are encouraged. And with this spirit: Hit House was born.

At Hit House, everyone from the novice fighter, the fitness enthusiast or the workout newbie can take part in the challenging, full-body workout that is Muay Thai. At the core of Hit House is their bold mantra “be a lover and a fighter”- capturing the founders’ beliefs that you can have a serious workout without taking yourself too seriously.

And the workouts themselves are serious work. Led by Muay Thai fighters turned trainers, the 50 minute fast-paced, full-body workout class is designed to improve your cardio, muscle tone and fight skills with every punch, kick, knee and elbow. Under the curriculum created by Scott, guests will train to finesse their fighting form while listening to mash-up music from DMX to Taylor Swift. The studio also replaced the traditional heavy, swinging bag with an exclusive floor to ceiling bag they call Bishop, created by Scott and Century Martial Arts for Hit House. Bishop is a hybrid heavy bag/fight dummy, designed to lessen the impact and prevent injury (and no bruises!). Bishop incorporates elements from four of the most commonly used bags in striking-based martial arts. By combining these bags into one, this allows class members to train with lightweight gloves and leave the studio sans bruises.

Not that anyone will be in rush to leave. The fight-fitness studio is complemented by high-end amenities including luxury locker rooms filled with Skin Spa New York products. Designed by Hyphen & Co., the space’s sophisticated interior is inspired by a modern, boutique hotel with industrial finishes, clean lines and Thai inspired greenery.

“Hit House empowers the fighter in us all. We encourage self-confidence over self-importance. Ambition over arrogance. We welcome swagger, individualism and a sense of humor,” says Scott. “The only opponent you are fighting is yourself.”
