Kickboxing for a Cause: Lower East Side Girls Club

On Wednesday, May 10th, Hit House hosted a Kickboxing for a Cause workout raising awareness and funds for the Lower East Side Girls Club.

The Lower Eastside Girls Club supports young women and gender expansive youth of color throughout New York City in leveraging their inner power to shape a better future for themselves, their community, and the world. As an innovative learning hub, they model practices of community resilience and self-reliance. By championing young people and channeling their curiosity and creative energy, they are transforming the community to one of “Joy. Power. Possibility.

Every year, hundreds of youth ages 10–23 visit the Girls Club Center for Community facility where free after-school, in-school, weekend and summer programs are offered in STEM, Arts, Digital Media, Sound, Wellness, Civic Engagement and Leadership. The 35,000 sq. ft facility includes a Maker Shop for coding and robotics; Environmental Studies lab for STEM exploration; Alphabet City Art School for visual arts and crafts; Center for Media and Social Justice for digital media, film and photography; Sound Studio for music and podcast production (shout out to WGRL (Where Girl Radio Lives); Design Studio for fashion and material arts; an expansive and productive rooftop farm; full Culinary Education Center; and 64-seat dome planetarium. Class was taught by one of Hit House's lead instructors, Elora Sullivan, and hosted two of the LES Girls Club chapter members, Lauren and Sarah. Thank you, both!

Donations helped to fund future events, projects and programs. With your help, we raised over $500 with this class - which was doubled by a generous corporate-match! (Thank you, thank you!) Didn't make it to class, but have the means to donate? Donate online here. Thank you to Smart Water for providing class with complimentary waters and a huge thank you to the brands that donated to our gift bags: AHA, Bluestone Lane, eBOOST, KO Studio, Living Proof and more.
